WHO

WHALES, BIOLOGY & CULTURE...

Jump on a boat on the northern coast and learn all about cetaceans—whales, their biology, and the cultural traditions around these magnificent mammals. Consider the conservation-oriented perspective from a Sea Shepherd while you help clean up a threatened beach. Reflect on both angles, come up with solutions, and be inspired to better serve your community back home.

WHERE

REFLECTIONS AT KIRKJUFELL...

Wow—it’s Erik the Red’s homestead, on the Snaefellsness Peninsula. Discover there a volcano covered by a glacier, surrounded by legends and myths brought to life by your local guides. Hike to the towering Kirkjufell where we make time to reflect on your journey. Reflection is crucial when travelling and we are very good at helping kids go deeper.

WHY

KAYAKING IN A GLACIER LAKE...

You wake up in Vik. Meet  fishermen who share their strategies, striving to live sustainably. Head to a dormant subglacial volcano that powers a geothermal plant: sustainability in action. Kayak in a glacier lake; reflect on climate change’s impact on such a spectacular place! Connect the dots during our nightly circle while working on fascinating case studies. Marvel at the thoughtfulness with which one of your students passes along the Bandana to that student who best exemplified the day’s Expedition Mentality!

ICELAND: SAMPLE ITINERARY

We customize each experience… options are endless!

DAY 1: Hallo! Welcome to Reykjavik!

Today, you will arrive at the Keflavik International Airport , where you will be greeted by your local guide. Your guides introduce the Story Approach & Expedition Mentality, and our first nightly reflection circle empowers students to be fully engaged in their experience.

DAY 2: Explore the mars-like landscapes of Reykjanes Peninsula, a UNESCO geothermal area

After breakfast, you will start the day with a morning swim at the Blue Lagoon, one of the 25 Wonders of the World. You will take a dip in pleasantly warm geothermal water in the middle of a black lava field, and feel invigorated by the natural beauty around you.

DAY 3: Hvolsvöllur area - South Iceland

After breakfast, you will head towards south Iceland, and there you will find a diverse and spectacular natural environment. Connect this environment with the vibrant local culture and literary tradition through hands on activities.

DAY 4: The green oasis under the glacier

After breakfast, you will travel to Skaftafell, a green oasis nestled in Vatnajökull National Park, below the great Vatnajökull glacier, the largest of its type in Western Europe. There, you will explore the trails and connect with nature and issues of sustainability and conservation.

I feel as if every activity we did was amazing, all of them giving me new experiences and learning moments. To name just one experience as the best would be too hard, for I felt like every experience was the best.
