WHO
Meet Enrique Bolaños...
This former president who years after serving his country, has created an ambitious education project. His non-profit aims to collect, preserve and disseminate political, cultural, legal and historical heritage information for Nicaraguans, free of charge. To spend time with him is to be inspired. We are privileged to work with him.
WHERE
BREATHTAKING LAND OF VOLCANOES...
Here literally everything is possible with us. Interview a former president; hike safe but active volcanoes where you are surrounded by an extraterrestrial landscape that for a moment makes you forget you are on planet earth. This breathtaking land of volcanoes and eloquent people is full of stories and wonders to explore when you have a great guide team.
WHY
CHARMING & MELLOW SEASIDE...
The charming and mellow tiny seaside village of El Transito is your home for a few days- here we give English lessons at the local elementary school, learn to surf, and head out on a panga to catch fish that we will cookup ever so deliciously with Juanita’s guidance. Aim to leave a positive trace in this warm and welcoming nook in rural Nica with a day of service rebuilding the community center.
NICARAGUA: SAMPLE ITINERARY
We customize each experience… options are endless!
DAY 1: Owning your experience
Welcome to Nicaragua! Your guides introduce the Story Approach & Expedition Mentality, and our first nightly reflection circle empowers students to be fully engaged in their experience.
DAY 2: CULTURAL HISTORY IN CONTEXT
Start with a walking tour, which will allow you to visit the monumental cathedral of Leon, the largest in Central America and explore the colonial architecture that makes this city a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Then meet Francisco, an enthusiastic former Sandinista, who will explain historical context of the revolution and share his personal story.
Day 3: Cultural Connections & Rural Values
Visit the charming rural village of El Transito, where we will visit the El Transito Centro de Artes (ETCA) for a day of service work. Explore the village before we enjoy sunset on the beach.
Day 4: Exploring Cultural Traditions
Visit the Masaya Volcano and Market, the biggest open-air handicraft market in Nicaragua. We then continue to San Juan de Oriente where learn from locals about the ancient tradition of pottery before settling into our homestay.
The way Chill does trips, to really connect with the people at the level that is acceptable to us, the level that makes it real – rather than going on a vacation, you are going to “be” in that country. An absolutely indelible effect on their hearts.
